fiddletalks: updates from me

worldbuilding: everything else

Species Showcase: Greater Moth (Luna)

  1. The Greater Moth (Luna)
-One of the many races given Sentience, this lanky insect has become rather rare.
-Large antennae- trying to touch these will result in a painful wing slap
-Wings are actually quite sturdy and covered in a glimmering dust sought after for expensive cosmetics
  2. “Isn’t my baby the cutest?” “Uh”
  3. Not a stealthy flier to say the least
  4. Not many know of the lifecycle of these insects, and are often surprised.

Species Showcase: Furnace Wurm

  1. The “furnace wurm”
  2. “off form”
  3. The wurm is always coiled. They seem to be bashful about their disproportionate limbs.
  4. Of the seven wurms I contacted, not a single one could be convinced to stand fully outstretched.
  5. I was, however, able to convince several skinks to stand in a line, nose to tail, for the purpose of this visual representation- with a promise of wheat crackers and cinnamon sticks.
  6. The name “Furnace Wurm” hails from an older time when wurms were housed within great metal furnaces.
  7. “C-cramped…”
  8. These days, the wurms instead heat large water stores- using steam to warm radiators found throughout the home.
  9. “The lord has visitors? I should heat more water!”
  10. “warming form”
  11. “Wild” vs “not… wild?”
  12. Cast Iron Radiator: When content, the wurm can be heard humming through these.
    -legs modeled after wurms
  13. House crest/decorated with depictions of the wurm/Incidentally, if you lose a skink they will always be found beneath these devices
  14. They take great pride in their jobs, and will be sad if not used-
  15. -so be sure to take a few hot baths in the summer.
  16. “Are they fighting?”
  17. Wurms are very attentive to the household. They are also very sensitive- if they sense conflict within the home they will become anxious. They will still heat- but be really sad about it.
  18. In the wilds, furnace wurms heat caves. These caves are frequented so often by travelers that they are considered landmarks.
  19. “Map of wurms”
  20. “wild” furnacewurms seem happy to host, provided you are not disrespectful of the space.
  21. “on form”
  22. Unlike “skinks” it is very rare to see a wurm entirely alight.
  23. This heat would melt metal- as such it is seen with blacksmithing wurms only.
  24. The wurm is the last defense when the home is under siege.
  25. The oldest known wurm, found within the king’s basement- a massive dragon that spoke only in a language I had never heard… (Seems to like its water heater, however).

Species Showcase: Stove Skink

  1. The “Stove Skink”
    a. “off form”
    b. metal basin- filled with smooth, clean stones
    c. “on form”
    d. “She’s getting away! So fast! Wow!” (fuck the knights)
    e. Their poor movement speed may be the main reason for these beings to serve within households.
    f. The “stove skink” is around 15″ nose to tail. However, “furnacewurms” are, despite being much larger, the same species- just much older.
    g. Why employ sentient creatures in lieu of coal or wood? The only resource required is clean stones (renewable) and patience in the face of such sass.
    h. I spent 3 hours trying to explain that she was actually a species of minor dragon to no avail. Perhaps dragons just like colloquialisms.
    i. Stove skinks are unmatched when it comes to consistent heat- I checked
    j. glass front so you can see food…
    k. … and make sure the stove skink does not partake in the goods?
    L. Skinks do not require food, but a pot pie is a pot pie.
  2. Always warn the skink before placing the pan or pot. It will not heat if unconscious.
  3. “I AM NOT A SNAKE”
  4. “I’M A SKINK”
  5. “You’re not that either.”
  6. “EEE WHY DO I ALWAYS GETS THE KETTLE?!” (“I did it last time”)
